Missional Communities
What is a missional community?
A community of Christ followers, on mission with God in obedience to the Holy Spirit that demonstrates and declares the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a specific people group. These groups are easy groups to join, but difficult to describe. At Vintage, the missional community groups will be the front door and primary method of entry and assimilation into the church. These groups are not primarily Bible studies, small groups, support groups, social activist groups, or weekly meetings, but they can function as any or all of these at different times.
Missional
A missional community is a group of committed believers who live out the mission of God together in a specific area or a particular people group. These communities reach people by specifically and tangibly declaring the gospel to those who believe it and to those being exposed to it. They are committed to intentionally praying for, living among, and serving the people group, with the hope that this will lead to sharing the Gospel with them.
Community
The intent of these groups is to give people a place of Gospel community within the context of their lives, so that these people can naturally and biblically live out the gospel in their lives and demonstrate and proclaim it to others. This type of community encourages people to share life with one another, pray for each other, and bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). The end goal of a missional community is to reach a target group, plug them into a larger body, lead them through the discipleship process, and teach them to duplicate themselves in a separate context.
